The University of Hamburg receives 3 million euros for research on social change | News

“We live in a complex network of rules that govern how nations, economies and societies are organized. As citizens, we agree to these rules and define them through institutions that are supposed to perform certain tasks,” says Prof. Dr. Dr. Lydia Mechtenberg at the Department of Economics at the University of Hamburg. Her research group, FOR BISC, examines how three crucial drivers of change, namely climate change, globalization and technological change (as well as mass migration) affect social structures. “Thanks to these extreme influences, there is a redistribution of material and immaterial costs and areas of use. This can, for example, lead to changes in the quality of existing institutions financial conflicts All of this can negatively affect the legitimacy of the institutions.”
