Downtown performance sets the stage for the upcoming Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The sound of jazz music echoed throughout the city of Springfield Wednesday night, ushering in the highly anticipated Jazz & Roots Festival later this week.

Music could be heard at One Financial Plaza where the night’s celebration featured jazz stylings by New Orleans musician Glen David Andrews. City and festival leaders also celebrated this major event that attracts thousands of music enthusiasts every year.

A variety of musical performances will be showcased over three days of music, art and community building. Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival Executive Director and Co-Founder Kristin Neville shared with 22News what’s in store for this year’s festivities.

“We’ve been working really hard and we’re excited to share incredible music with you in the coming days. To share a celebration of community and diversity, art and culture and the revival of culture.”

The festival performances officially begin this Friday starting at 5:30 p.m. The event is free for all who attend.
