The Chalk Festival returns to Somerset County for the eighth year

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Somerset’s Uptown Chalk the Block Festival returns and artists from across the country gear up to transform the streets with chalk!

This year’s event is scheduled to take place Friday, July 26 through Sunday, July 28 and it returns to Uptown Somerset. For 2024, Somerset, Inc. will bring in 21 professional street painting artists, a professional muralist, plein air artists, potters and everything you would expect from a festival.

The festival lineup includes some long-time returning artists and community favorites, The Chalking Dad, Jesse Lubera, and Lori Hughes, and some new Somerset artists from as far away as California, including Nestor Mendoza, Chelsea Scott, and Holland Winslow. Each brings their own unique style to transform the streets of Somerset.

Together with the professional artists, there will be competitions for both children and adults. Applications for both of these competitions must be submitted by June 21. You can find more information about the competitions and how you sign up here.

Alongside the art, there will be plenty of food, live music and even a 5k walk/run for all ages. The 5th Annual Chalk the Block 5k will take place on Sunday, July 28 at 9.00 am. Registration for that event can be found here.
