Shehbaz speaks of the mantra of “tough decisions” in the face of stringent IMF requirements

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has underlined the need for tough decisions, saying the IMF’s goals cannot be achieved through rhetoric alone.

Chairing the Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said the ministries must step up their performance as the goals set by the global lender could not be achieved through rhetoric alone.

Shehbaz stressed the importance of own responsibility in achieving economic goals and called on institutions and provinces to maintain close cooperation to achieve this goal.

The prime minister ordered immediate relief on electricity bills, stressing the importance of improving electricity transmission lines and tackling electricity theft to save significant costs.

During the meeting, Shehbaz also emphasized the need for strict security measures during Muharram.

Shehbaz described his recent visits to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and his meetings with Russian President Putin and discussions in China as fruitful.

He said the state Pakistan was in was obvious to all, adding that “my focus remains on action”.
