Hampton City Council is considering tougher penalties for speeding on city roads

HAMPTON, VA (WAVY) – The city of Hampton plans to crack down on speeding drivers in residential areas.

The City Council is expected to vote on an ordinance that would issue extra fines for speeding on certain Hampton roads.


A 2023 ordinance fined drivers $200 for speeding in the city. The council will consider changing and recreating regulation to establish harsher penalties on the following streets:

  • Shell Road from Old Aberdeen Road to Powhatan Parkway.
  • Greenbriar Avenue from Pembroke Avenue to Victoria Boulevard.

The municipal council will meet at 6:30 p.m
